University of Califronia, San Diego

Roxanne Nuhaily

There are not many opportunities in which pleasure and work can be mixed, yet this one can fit in this particular category. Roxanne Nuhaily, the Director of the International Students and the International Student Services, carried out several presentations with reference to her area and key information regarding University of California, San Diego.  We can say that the experience was fulfilling in every sense, Mrs. Nuhaily not only is a professional in every way, but also the three-day collaboration was delightful.
During her presentations, three in Arequipa (one at the BNC Arequipa and the others at local universities La Salle and Alas Peruanas), and one at the BNC Tacna branch; attendees were thoroughly informed about the opportunities and requirements to pursue different careers at UCSD.
Time devoted to personal inquiries was greatly appreciated, people left the presentation with all the facts they needed. The importance of these presentations can be seen with the one carried out at Tacna branch. Given the vicinity to Chile, people from the city of Arica were able to attend the presentation without having to travel to a farther city.
All in all we can say that this presentation has set a precedent for the ones to come this year. We can only thank Roxanne for the information imparted, her good disposition and collaboration.

Access Program Closing Ceremony

The Access group started in 2010, its goal is to provide with the adequate tools to succeed in life. Along with their English Language instruction, they received supplementary lessons focused on expanding their cultural knowledge and leadership skills.

Having completed their two-year program, they were ready to spread their wings and fly on their own. We have to say that we are sorry to let them go; bight, committed and responsible kids.

Caitlin Cetola, honored us with her presence during the closing ceremony; it was touching one, which highlighted the group´s achievements and activities. Theatrical performances, an adaptation of Charles Dicken´s “A Christmas Carol” performed at a Care Center for HIV Children were among their stunning and passion filled acting and dancing did more than just entertain their special audience.

Jackson Pollock and Andy Warhol were also present in their art lessons; this could be seen at the art exhibition. The thankful words from the mother of one of the students marked the ceremony.

We thank once more to all the people who contributed to the success of this project.

International EducationWeek 2011

As every year we celebrated the International Education Week this 2011 celebration was highlighted by the Roof Roock, band and dance contest; the online presentation of University of Notre Dame and the chat with De Paul University. Additionally EducationUSA hosted the Inaugural Virtual College Fair, as well as the popular spelling bee and debate contest.

Students from all levels had fun participating in the spelling bee contest and the advanced level ones, had a good chance to exercise the power of words using a variety of examples and a wide range of vocabulary to convey their ideas.
Regarding the various presentations we had, attendants got the best of them by having the chance to ask specific inquiries related to higher studies in the United States, the topics ranged from under graduate studies, scholarships to English Language Studies.

The main event took place o n Friday, the selected bands and choreography groups did their best to win the first place. It was an energizing night filled with god music and impressive dace moves. Finally the winning contestants were given a public ovation.

It was an exciting, interesting and rewarding week. We have set our expectations high for the coming IEW 2012.
