1st EducationUSA Fair of American Universities

Fairleigh Dickinson University

U.S. Embassy Consul and
the Director of EducationUSA BNC Arequipa
We were pleased to hold for the first time in this city such an important event. The significance lays on the opportunities that prospective students as well as the general public had at attending this fair. Arequipa is the second largest city in the country and holds an average of 1’000,000 inhabitants; therefore the city was in need of updated and precise information regarding higher studies, intensive English lessons in the United States and information regarding student visas.
The Consul of the United States Embassy gave a short talk about obtaining student visa, this was of the upmost importance for people willing to study in the United States and need to follow the policies and procedures to obtain a student visa.  Additionally, the six universities invited, Murray State University, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Emerson College, Mississippi State University, Castleton, Vermont State College and University of California, San Diego gave presentations regarding admissions, careers, ESL, financial aid among other topics.
The favorable reception this fair had could be translated in the 816 attendants, who left the aforementioned fair more than satisfied with the previously activities mentioned. We look forward to being able to organize this event in the following years.

Remembering old friends. Charles, our Conversation Club leader in 2010.

“I have found my experience as a volunteer, leading the Conversation Club, at Centro Cultural Peruano Norteamericano a very rewarding one, students were eager to ask me questions, show me their way of life and most importantly practice speaking English. In fact, many students brought me to meet their family and have some authentic comida Arequipeña. I have thoroughly enjoyed spending my time and sharing my experience in my own language with every student that I have encountered at Cultural, and I believe that the students have benefited”.

Charles Brown, Bachelor of Arts, Political Science, University of Delaware U.S.

Good job Ayrton!!!! we know this is just the begining of a successful journey.

Partners of the Americas- Harry Wing’s visit

As part of Partners of the Americas’ mission to connect individuals, volunteers and institutions, but above all to change lives; we were pleased to have Mr. Harry Wing, President of the Partners of the Americas, Peru during August 23rd and 24th. Mr. Wing held a series of meetings with the former Youth Leaders and Youth Ambassadors in which they conversed about the progress of ongoing projects as well as future ones. Mr. Wing’s visit also served to reinforce the Network of Partners of the Americas in Peru.
These meetings proved to be highly productive in many ways such as guidance to volunteers, and the personal rapport was excellent! We look forward to have Mr. Wing (Harry to everyone!) with us once more.

A Castleton adventure. Jordan's testimony

Sometimes you spend your life half living it, until something strikes you and makes you realize that it implies more things than you are accustomed to. This trip has helped me to see life from a different perspective, to organize my ideas and to see an open door wherever I go.

Types of Institutions

Colleges, Universities
 and Institutes:   The Distinction

Degree-granting institutions in the United States can be called by any of these terms, and colleges and institutes are in no way inferior to universities. As a general rule, colleges tend to be smaller and usually offer only undergraduate degrees, while a university also offers graduate degrees. The words "school," "college," and "university" will be used interchangeably. An institute usually specializes in degree programs in a group of closely related subject areas, so you will also come across degree programs offered at institutes of technology, institutes of fashion, institutes of art and design, and so on.
Within each college or university you will find schools, such as the school of arts and sciences or the school of business. Each school is responsible for the degree programs offered by the college or university in that area of study.
